Cary High School Window & Door Replacements
Wake County Public Schools | Cary, North Carolina
PROJECT DETAILS
Building envelope replacement job that included over 150 individual windows covering 28 separate classrooms and 13 storefront exterior doors. Atlas retained an architect to design the window and door systems, and oversaw the fieldwork, design, bidding, and construction administration for the project. Fieldwork included documentation of existing window systems, window HVAC units, exterior and exterior finishes, and asbestos material testing and confirmation. The design included completely new window systems for four separate school buildings, entrance doors, and security card readers for door access. As part of the design, proper egress windows were included to comply with current editions of the NC State Building Code.
Construction took place over a single summer break for the school and was phased to allow for proper asbestos control during demolition, window/door installation, and clearance testing for occupancy. Atlas oversaw weekly site visits, asbestos monitoring, adherence to design criteria, and inspections. Despite significant lead times in window manufacturing, the team overcame multiple timing challenges to allow students and staff to occupy the buildings on time prior to the school opening.
